Contemporary hotels, charming dwellings, sophisticated farm holiday centres surrounded by nature, silent retreats and romantic inns: staying overnight in Emilia Romagna is exciting thanks to the region’s many unique accommodation options. These are located along the Via Emilia, between Piacenza and Cattolica, along the Adriatic Coast, and from the Apennines to the hinterland. This is where the journey begins to discover culture, gourmet food and wine, the Motor Valley and the natural beauties of Emilia Romagna.

Rocca d’Olgisio (Olgisio fortress, Piacenza)

Set like a diamond in the watershed between the Tidone and Chiarone streams, Rocca d’Olgisio is one of the oldest and most charming fortresses in the Piacenza area (dating back to 1037). The Rocca’s medieval facilities are surrounded by a nature park overlooking the vineyards in the Tidone Valley. There are five double rooms, each with a bathroom, fridge-bar and kitchenette. A sumptuous traditional breakfast is served by the owners in the castle’s kitchen.

 Badia di Torrechiara (Parma)

Total calm and peace envelop visitors in the monastery of S. Maria della Neve in Torrechiara (province of Parma), where daily life transpires in perfect silence according to the Rule of Saint Benedict. Built in 1471, the abbey boasts a “hut-like” façade decorated with pilasters, blind Lombard bands and interlaced arches. There is a rose window above the Sforza-style portal. The guestrooms in the abbey, which has recently been completely renovated, accommodate up to 25 people.

It has 54 suites on five floors and a wellbeing centre on the 6th floor overlooks the Rimini promenade. There are two sauna cubicles for guests looking to entirely give themselves up to complete relaxation, as well as a thalassotherapy tub with a large floor-to-ceiling window, a mosaic-decorated Turkish bath, three cubicles with sunbeds for body treatments, a small gym and a panoramic swimming pool with a water massage and waterfalls.
